1. What is CenceMe?
CenceMe is a social network developed for your iPhone™ and iPod Touch. CenceMe infers
human presence information based on iPhone™ and iPod Touch sensors, for example, activity, being in a
conversation, surrounding noise level, and location according to the user's
privacy settings. Weather information about the location you and your friends are at is displayed too.
Soon, CenceMe will even be able to determine if a person
is listening to music or dancing at a party! This presence can be gathered and shared
with your friends running CenceMe on their iPhone or iPod Touch. CenceMe presence can be published on Facebook™,
MySpace™***, Twitter, and CenceMe Web. CenceMe Web is a web page associated with
each CenceMe user where the CenceMe presence is visualized.
CenceMe software also allows you to customize how
your presence information is displayed, by assigning personalized icons, photo, and
text to your presence.
2. How does CenceMe work?
You can easily install for free CenceMe from the Apple App Store on your iPhone™ or iPod Touch.
After installation, you have immediate access to a subset of the CenceMe
features on the iPhone™ or iPod Touch: you can view your activity and audio presence,
the weather of the location you are at and you can pick a CenceMe icon from the IconMe view or take a photo to
personalize your presence. You can start populating your friend list by inviting friends (see here). You can do so
through the CenceMe application on your iPhone or iPod Touch by sending either SMS or email invitations. By sending
invitations via SMS there is not any SMS cost incurred since the SMS invitation is sent through the iPhone/iPod
Touch data channel. The CenceMe presence is visualized on the iPhone and iPod Touch of the CenceMe friends part of your
friend list. Optionally, CenceMe presence can be published on Facebook™, MySpace™, Twitter, and CenceMe Web.
By playing with the privacy and publishing settings a CenceMe users has full control on the type of CenceMe presence
to publish and where to publish it.
For further details about how to use CenceMe, please refer to the "Description" page.
3. How do I activate CenceMe to get access to all the features?
CenceMe is automatically activated when you launch it for the
first time after installation on your iPhone or iPod Touch. At
this point you can start inviting friends to populate your
friends list. In order to publish your CenceMe presence on
Facebook™, MySpace™, Twitter, and CenceMe Web you
have to perform a straightforward activation step as described
in the
"Description" page.
4. Is my CenceMe presence information public?
Your CenceMe presence is public on your CenceMe Web page if you
activate it, whereas it can be viewed on Facebook and MySpace
according to, respectively, your Facebook and MySpace privacy settings.
Your CenceMe presence on Twitter can be viewed as any other tweets and follows your
Twitter privacy settings.
5. Who are my CenceMe friends?
All your Facebook™ buddies running CenceMe on their iPhone™/iPod
Touch before CenceMe 1.2.0 and the friends you have invited in CenceMe 1.2.0.
6. How do I accept a friend's invitation by email?
You can proceed in two different ways: you can open the email
directly on your iPhone/iPod Touch and then follow the
instructions, or if you open the email on your computer, enter the
tokens you have access to through the email on your
iPhone/iPod Touch CenceMe application by going to "Settings" >
"Become friend".
7. Can I remove friends from my friends list?
Sure you can. Go to "Settings" > "Remove friends" and select the
friend to remove. By removing a friend you will disappear from your
CenceMe friend's friends list too.
8. What is the "Restore account" feature for?
This feature is designed to allow you to use a same CenceMe account
on different iPhone and iPod Touch devices or on multiple devices at
the same time. The CenceMe application on different devices sharing
a same account will be automatically synch'ed up as
CenceMe is launched on one of the devices. Using the restore account
feature is recommended to protect you CenceMe account in case of
iPhone or iPod Touch loss, damage and to allow a smooth migration to
a different iPhone and iPod Touch. For more details about the
restore account feature, please see
here.
9. How do I verify my identity when going through the "Restore account setup" process?
You have to open the email you received after the "Restore account setup" procedure on your iPhone/iPod Touch and then follow the instructions.
10. How do I protect my privacy?
You have two different ways: you can both decide what aspects of
your CenceMe
presence to publish (using "Settings" > "Privacy") and where to
publish it (using "Settings" > "Publishing"). Note that even if
you decide not to publish your CenceMe presence on any of your
Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and CenceMe Web accounts by turning off all
the switches inside "Settings" > "Publishing", your presence is
still viewable on your CenceMe friends iPhone/iPod Touch.
11. How do I uninstall CenceMe?
To uninstall the application from your iPhone™ or iPod Touch, long tap the
CenceMe icon on the iPhone™/iPod Touch screen and follow the instructions.
To uninstall CenceMe from your Facebook account, log in to Facebook, click
on "Applications" on the bottom left corner of the Facebook portal, then on
"Edit Applications". When inside the "Application Settings" page click the
"x" symbol in the row containing "CenceMe - IPhone Edition". To unistall
CenceMe from you MySpace account, log in to MySpace, locate the "My Apps"
box in your Home page, click "manage apps" inside the "My Apps" box, and
then "Remove App" in the row containing CenceMe.
12. What if I "Remove Box" inside the "Boxes" or the "Wall" page of
my Facebook™ account?
To recover from this state, you have to add the CenceMe box back.
In order to do so, please follow the instructions in step 6 of the "Description" page.
13. I can't see any CenceMe information on my Facebook™
profile page, even though I have activated my CenceMe iPhone™ application with
Facebook™. Even if I retry the activate process, I am informed that the
activation has already taken place. What should I do?
The best way to proceed in this case is to remove first CenceMe from your Facebook™
account (see answer to Question 11) and then re-activate your CenceMe iPhone™ application
with Facebook (see here) as a message on your iPhone/iPod Touch informs you to do so.
14. Sometimes my most recent CenceMe presence is reflected on my Facebook™, MySpace™, Twitter, or CenceMe Web only after a long delay. What is happening?
Most often the cause of this problem is due to bad
network coverage for your iPhone™ or iPod Touch at your particular location or some server issues. In this case CenceMe running on your iPhone or iPod Touch can not promptly connect to our servers and presence updates are either
not possible or delayed.
15. I thought I already activated my application, but I am
requested to re-activate my application with Facebook™. Why does this
occur?
A request to re-activate your CenceMe iPhone™ application with
Facebook™ can occur for a variety of reasons. Most often this happens due to an
incomplete or faulty activation process. Users must be sure to click the blue
button presented in the final screen of the registration process. Re-activate
CenceMe from your iPhone™ (see here).
